Dr. Neil English
Superintendent of Schools, Riverview School District
Dr. English brings over two decades of administrative experience to his role as Superintendent, with a strong focus on teaching and learning. He has served the Riverview School District as Curriculum Coordinator and Jr-Sr High School Instructional Principal. Prior to Riverview, he was a Central Office Administrator in the Moon Area School District, serving as Director of Guidance, School Counseling, and Gifted Education. Earlier in his career, he served for six years as Assistant Principal at an award winning middle school in Connecticut serving students in grades 5 through 8.
Dr. English is deeply committed to instructional excellence and continuous improvement. He is trained through the Yale Haskins Group in foundational literacy and is certified as a Reading and Writing Workshop Coach through Columbia University Teachers College. He has presented in Connecticut and Pennsylvania state conferences on differentiating instruction for gifted learners and on math workshop practices. In Riverview, he has worked closely with teachers in coaching, instruction, and professional learning to support a strong culture of student growth.
Prior to entering administration, Dr. English taught middle and high school mathematics as well as middle school science. He began his career as a high school mathematics teacher and residential counselor at a psychoeducative therapeutic school supporting students with autism and significant social and emotional needs. He also served as an adjunct professor teaching college algebra. His professional experiences extend beyond the classroom, including work as a Resident Director with the Semester at Sea Institute for Shipboard Education, where he supported college students and coordinated programming around the world. Following college, he served with AmeriCorps in the southeastern United States, teaching foundational skills in underserved schools and contributing to disaster relief and community service efforts. In addition to his professional roles, Dr. English has an extensive coaching background, working with middle school boys and girls soccer and middle school, junior varsity, and varsity boys basketball.
Dr. English earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, a Professional Certificate in Administration from Sacred Heart University, and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Pittsburgh. He also holds his Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from the University of Pittsburgh as well.
A proud Raider, Dr. English is dedicated to serving the students, families, and communities of Verona and Oakmont. He and his wife, Annette, are the parents of two teenagers, Cori and John, and remain actively involved in coaching, volunteering, and supporting their children and their community.
Dr. English joined the Riverview School District in 2016 and is honored to serve as Riverview’s fifth Superintendent, continuing to build on the District’s tradition of strong relationships and high expectations for all students.
