Dr. Neil English
Superintendent of Schools, Riverview School District
Dr. English comes to the Superintendent with almost two decades of administrative experience. He has previously served the District as the Curriculum Coordinator and the Jr-Sr High School Instructional Principal. Prior to that, he worked as a Central Office Administrator for the Moon Area School District serving as the Director of Guidance, School Counseling, and Gifted Education. In Connecticut, he served for 6 years as Assistant Principal at an award-winning middle school (grades 5-8). Dr. English is passionate about teaching and learning. He is trained through the Yale Haskin’s Group for foundational literacy, is certified as a Reading and Writing Workshop Coach through Columbia University’s Teachers College, and has presented at state conferences on differentiating for the gifted learner and math workshop pedagogies. He has worked alongside Riverview teachers coaching, instructing, leading, and being relentlessly devoted to continuous improvement and creating a culture of learning.
Prior to administration, Dr. English taught middle and high school mathematics as well as middle school science. He began his teaching career as a high school mathematics teacher and residential counselor at a psychoeducative therapeutic school in Connecticut, where he supervised and taught students with autism and other profound social and emotional challenges. He also worked as an adjunct professor teaching college Algebra. In addition to teaching, Dr. English has a vast coaching background, coaching middle school boys’ and girls’ soccer and middle school, JV, and Varsity boys’ basketball. He was employed by the Semester at Sea Institute for Shipboard Education as a Resident Director, where he coordinated and managed college-aged students and shipboard activities in many parts of the world. After graduating college, Dr. English spent a year volunteering for the Americorps in the Southeastern region of the United States where he taught foundational reading and mathematics in low performing urban and rural schools, repaired homes in disaster relief zones, and rehabilitated children in urban hospitals.
Dr. English earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, a Professional Certificate in Administration from Sacred Heart University in Connecticut, and a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Pittsburgh. He has completed his Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility through the University of Pittsburgh as well.
Dr. English is a proud Raider and is passionate about serving the students, families, and communities of Verona and Oakmont. He and his wife, Annette, are parents of two teenagers (Cori and John) and spend most of their time coaching, volunteering, staying healthy, and supporting family, friends, and loved ones.
Dr. English joined the Riverview School District in 2016 and is honored and humbled to serve as Riverview’s 5th Superintendent.
