November 20-23

This past weekend, November 20-23, eight students from the Riverview Model United Nations team participated in the annual Princeton Model United Nations Conference (PMUNC). The conference gathered 1100 students from 85 schools and 5 different countries including students from China, Turkey, Italy and the Dominican Republic. Our students spent their 20 hours committee debating and negotiating issues such as the world in 2050, the crisis between Israel and Palestine, creating Mao's China, discussing crisis in Liberian, and re-enacting the Paris Peace Conference. I am pleased to report that the Riverview team earned 6 total awards at PMUNC 2014 bringing the teams' total for the first two conferences in this 2014-15 season to 16. Students winning individual awards were:

Daniel Fawcett - Second Place Outstanding Delegate Award as Edgar Snow in Mao's Red Base Committee

Alexa Patsey - Third Place Honorable Delegate Award as the Vice President of the United States in the National

Security Council of 2050

Mackenzie Osborn - Third Place Honorable Delegate Award as Hasan Yousef in the Joint Crisis Hamas Committee

Sam Glaser - Verbal Commendation Award as Chen Yun in Mao's Red Base Committee

Overall, the team including Jocey Ostrowski, Danielle Hanlon, Tyler Aber, Daniel Fawcett, Alexa Patsey, Mackenzie Osborn, Sam Glaser and Emma Patterson won a second place Outstanding Delegation Award for the entire conference. This means that the Riverview team was one of only 4 schools recognized for team excellence at the Princeton conference.
