Riverview Model UN Takes Home 2 Individual Awards at Toronto Conference!

Over the weekend of February 8-11, 2024, 7 members of the Riverview Model United Nations team traveled to the Great North to participate in the 17th University of Toronto Model United Nations Conference. This conference brought together over 1,000 delegates from Canada's best Model United Nations teams as well as international schools, some from as far away as Trinidad and Tobago.

The competition was fierce with students facing many challenges such as being questioned on their foreign policy stance, learning the nuances of the British Housh of Commons, and planning the ascension of countries into the European Union. Our team of seven delegates, sophomores Aicha Jaafar and Siddaly Sykes; juniors Chiara Brun, Carter Loughren, and Molly Morrissey; and Seniors Cohen Hoolahan and Georgia Tsambis were instrumental to the progress of their committee rooms and often the focus of the discussion.

UTMUN is very sparing with its awards, only recognizing three delegates in each committee room. Nonetheless, two of our students were recognized for their effort and hard work over the weekend!

Georgia Tsambis - First Place Best Delegate in the Henry VIII Committee

Carter Loughren - Third Place Honorable Delegate in the British House of Commons

Congratulations to Georgia and Carter as well as the entire team for a successful weekend.  The team is back in action at the University of Pittsburgh Asia Challenge on Tuesday, February 20.
