On Thursday, April 13 the Riverview Model UN wrapped up its 2022-23 season at Westminster College for the twelfth annual Westminster Model United Nations Conference. The competition brought together over 225 students from 16 high schools in the tri-state area and was an opportunity for the 20 members of our team in attendance to recognize how much they have progressed throughout the year.
The team was recognized with 4 awards for the conference.
The group of Cohen Hoolahan, Kylie Longstreth, Carter Loughren, Drew Ogrodowski, and Sidda Sykes received the Second Place Outstanding Delegation Award as Belgium.
Carter Loughren won First Place Best Delegate as Belgium in the Economic and Social Committee
Cohen Hoolahan and Drew Ogrodowski won First Place Delegation as Belgium in the Berlin Conference of 1884 committee
Alanna Wachocki won Honorable Delegate recognition as Botswana in the Economic and Social Council
This brings the 2022-2023 Model UN year to a close. The year was a record-breaking season for the Riverview team which won an incredible 56 awards this year, beating the previous record of 32. The team should be commended on its professionalism and continued desire to learn and improve, but most importantly for its interest in solving world issues.
It is also imperative to thank our Senior members for their leadership and passion for the team over the past four years. Naomi Girson, Declan Hawk, Joey Inzinga, Kylie Longstreth, Alanna Wachocki, and Olivia Wilton have been an integral and consistent part of the team since 2019. The current success of the team is directly related to the guidance and example that these six incredible young leaders have shown our underclassmen. They guided the team through the Covid years and have led us to an even stronger place than any of us thought possible. They will be missed as they move on to their next chapters but will never be forgotten.
Thank you, seniors, for all that you have done for the Riverview MUN team. We wish you the best!
