BAUER WINS DOUBLE GOLD! BIBZA WINS BRONZE AT WPIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Barnes, 2 relay teams also medal and Qualify for PIAA!
The Raiders Track and Field Teams won medals in 6 different events at the WPIAL Championships Wednesday at Slippery Rock University.

Amberson Bauer, a William & Mary recruit, won the 1600 and the 800 becoming the first double WPIAL champion in school history. Amby (4:21.43) came from 3 seconds behind in the 1600 - recording a 61 second last lap to defeat defending State 2-mile champion Sean Aiken (4:22.3) of Eden Christian. In the 800, Amby (1:57.33) largely controlled the race from the start while holding off 2nd place finisher Max Hamilton (1:57.79) of OLSH. The two golds were Amby’s 6th and 7th career WPIAL medals.

Senior Alexandria Bibza, a Roanoke College recruit, won a 3rd place medal in the Discus with a PR throw of 116-03. Alex improved by 4 places over last year’s medal winning performance. Alex represents the first girl thrower to qualify for the state championship since 2015.

Riverview’s third individual qualifier was Sophomore Christopher Barnes who broke out of a tight pack of 4 runners with 600 meters to go in the 3200 to capture the 5th and final state spot with a new PR of 9:53.64. Christopher qualified in 2 events as he anchored the 5h place 4x800 relay team. (8:29.17). The team consisted of 4 underclassmen: Junior Cohen Hoolahan, and Sophomores Holden Deasy and Micah Ivy joined Barnes on the medal stand. It was the 6th straight WPIAL medal for Riverview’s Boys 4x8 and 3rd straight PIAA qualification.

In the final event of the night, Junior Lola Abraham anchored the Girls 4x400 with a spectacular 61.01 to help Junior Jonisha Carlino, Sophomores Cailey Trosch and Katerina Tsambis earn the 5th place medal and secure a spot in the state championship with a time of 4:15.82.
