Nine members of the Riverview Model UN Team attended the annual Great Lakes Invitational Model United Nations Conference Dec. 4-7, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. GLIMUN is run by the Great Lakes Invitational Conference Association which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. The conference hosted over 350 students from 4 states and had the students participate in over 22 hours of debate, easily the longest conference in terms of debate time that Riverview attends. Additionally, the conference runs using THIMUN style (more popular in Europe and different than most stateside conferences), which asks students to lobby and write resolutions with a goal of presenting for the entire conference. Riverview's team invested into learning the procedure and was fully entrenched in debate early in the first committee session. The entire team, including juniors Emily Chen, Vincent DelRosso, Grace Johnson, Braden Longstreth, and Molly O'Donnell as well as sophomores Ella Fabyanic, Hannah Hudack and Ryland Ogrodowski passed amendments and papers throughout the weekend and were integral in the discussion in their respective rooms. Two of the students were recognized at the closing ceremony for their overall performance:
Ryland Ogrodowski - Honorable Delegate as France in the Food and Agriculture Organization
Ella Fabyanic - Honorable Delegate as Morocco in the Disarmament and International Security Committee
Congratulations to the entire team for an amazing weekend of learning and MUN work. The two awards bring the team total to 12 for the year. The team will end the fall season at the University of Pittsburgh Model European Union on Tuesday, December 10.
