It's a common tradition in elementary school; the classic hand turkey art project. On Tuesday, seniors in Mrs. Rocchini's English classes created an updated version of that project to better suit their older selves. Attached to their hand turkey is a poem that reads:
Once, my hand traced a turkey’s vague form,
Carefully drawing a childhood norm.
A simple craft, so humble and sweet,
A yearly tradition I’d eagerly repeat.
Now my hand drafts dreams and plans,
Bids farewells, as life demands.
It’s grown with me, year by year,
Yet still it grasps all I hold dear.
So, this turkey hand, though playful still,
Is filled with gratitude and goodwill—
For family, friends, and lessons learned,
There through each challenge and every turn.
As we gather this Thanksgiving Day,
I thank you for shaping me along the way.
This turkey hand is a nod to the past,
And to a future that’s bright and vast.
