Riverview Model UN Wins 11 Awards at Pitt Conference

On Tuesday, November 9, the Riverview Model United Nations team participated in the University of Pittsburgh's 25th annual Model United Nations Conference.  The young Riverview team of 25 delegates, consisting of 4 senior members, 7 juniors, 7 sophomores, and 7 freshmen, had an eventful day debating current world issues such as crimes against humanity, whistleblower protection, and the Yemeni Civil War.  The team performed exceptionally well earning 11 awards of recognition for the day.  

 

Three of the awards were delegation (team) awards earning the team recognition as three of the top 6 delegations in attendance

 

First Place Best Large Delegation (India) - Naomi Girson, Callie Harden, Jo Schaaf, Georgia Tsambis,  Alanna Wachocki

 

Second Place Outstanding Small Delegation (Egypt) - Paul Domhoff, Cohen Hoolahan, Ziad Jaafar, Brandon Williams

 

Third Place Honorable Large Delegation (Mexico) - Lola Abraham, Xavier Bear, Declan Hawk, Hann (Moth) Morrissey, Olivia Wilton

 

In addition to the team awards, 7 students won individual award recognition for their performance in their respective committees:

 

Naomi Girson - First Place Best Delegate as India in the United Nations Human Rights Council 

 

Hann (Moth) Morrissey - First Place Best Delegate as Mexico in General Assembly 6 (Legal Committee)

 

Caroline Harden - Second Place Outstanding Delegate as India in the World Trade Organization and a Second Place Position Paper award.

 

Alanna Wachocki - Second Place Outstanding Delegate as India in the General Assembly 6 (Legal Committee)

 

Olivia Wilton - Second Place Outstanding Delegate as Mexico in the United Nations Security Council

 

Cohen Hoolahan - Third Place Honorable Delegate as Egypt in the United Nations Human Rights Council 

 

Georgia Tsambis - Third Place Honorable Delegate as India in the United Nations Security Council

 

The Model UN team will be in action again this weekend University of Pittsburgh Model European Union in December. Good luck! We are all Riverview Proud!
