On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Riverview 1st and 2nd grade students helped kick off the statewide launch of Remake Learning Days, a festival celebrating hands-on, future-ready learning experiences for students of all ages. They explored how humans build animal bridges, tunnels and other structures around the world to help wildlife safely cross roadways and avoid vehicle collisions. Inspired by this, students then designed and built prototypes of their own structures to protect the green salamander, an endangered species native to Pennsylvania.
Verner 2nd grade classes participated in a "school swap," collaborating with peers from O’Hara Elementary in the Fox Chapel Area School District. The students later traveled to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center to complete the challenge alongside more than a hundred other classrooms from across Western Pennsylvania. We may have some budding architects and engineers in the district!
