Model UN Team attends University of Pittsburgh Asia Challenge

Twenty-five members of the Riverview Model UN Team attended the annual University of Pittsburgh Asia Challenge on Tuesday, February 25. This event is a regionally focused, Model UN-style conference asking students to consider the problems currently impacting the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. Topics discussed at this year's event were energy sustainability, migration of peoples, and changing age demographics. Once again, our team found success in debating, discussing, and negotiating at its final full team event of the year. The team was awarded for their leadership and diplomacy with 6 awards at the conference.
Students winning awards were:

Ryland Ogrodowski and Siddaly Sykes - First Place Best Delegates as Azerbaijan in the Energy Committee
Murphy Hawk and Aliyah Lookabaugh - Second Place Outstanding Delegates as Republic of Korea in the Ageing Demographics Committee
Vincent DelRosso - Second Place Outstanding Position paper as People's Republic of China in the Energy Committee
Rocco Brown and Tatum Grimes - Third Place Honorable Delegates as Malaysia in the Energy Committee
Grace Johnson - Third Place Honorable Delegate as Cambodia in the Ageing Demographics Committee
Dimitri Hong and Braden Longstreth - Third Place Honorable Delegates as Lao People's Democratic Republic in the Migration Committee

These awards bring the team total to 41 for the school year with two competitive events remaining. A group of 5 Seniors will compete at the Rome International Model United Nations in March and members of the team will also participate at the annual Westminster College conference in April.
