Rome International Model United Nations

From March 24 to April 2, five seniors from the Riverview Model UN Team—Renton Biondich, Chiara Brun, Carter Loughren, Molly Morrissey and Drew Ogrodowski—traveled to Rome, Italy, to participate in the 18th annual Rome International Model United Nations (RIMUN) Conference. The event brought together students from 13 countries, including Turkey, Georgia, India and eight European nations, for debates and discussions on current global political issues and potential solutions to pressing world problems.

During their trip, the students had the opportunity to explore Florence, Pompeii, and several iconic sites in Rome. More importantly, they engaged with like-minded peers, all united in their goal to make a positive impact on the future. At the conference, the students were introduced to a new Model UN procedure and quickly rose to leadership roles within their committee rooms. Over the five-day event, four students were recognized for their outstanding contributions during the awards ceremony:

  • Carter Loughren – First Place Best Delegate as Algeria in the General Assembly 1: Disarmament and International Security Committee

  • Renton Biondich – Second Place Delegate as Algeria in the General Assembly 6: Legal Committee

  • Chiara Brun – Second Place Delegate as Algeria in the United Nations Security Council

  • Molly Morrissey – Third Place Delegate as Algeria in the Human Rights Council

Congratulations to the team for its success at RIMUN and over the course of the last 4 years. They have been an integral part of our Model UN team and should be thanked for their leadership and dedication to our team.
