Welcome, Mr. Newell, Riverview Jr-Sr High School's new Assistant Principal!

Welcome, Mr. Scott. A. Newell!

As Assistant Principal starting Nov. 1, Mr. Newell comes to Riverview High School with extensive experience with students in and out of the classroom.

“Part of the reason I got into education was because I’ve always enjoyed being in the next generation -- whether coaching or being in the classroom,” Mr. Newell said. “I love working with students,” Mr. Newell said.

Mr. Newell is coming to Riverview after spending the last 15 years in the Highlands School District. During that time, Mr. Newell served in multiple roles throughout the district. He began as a Language Arts teacher in the elementary building teaching third and fifth grades. He then moved to the middle school where he has served as a math teacher for the last 11 years.

Outside of the classroom, Mr. Newell served the district in many leadership roles. He has served on several Curriculum Writing Committees where he was trained in the Understanding by Design program. Mr. Newell helped to move his colleagues forward by being instrumental in the implementation and training of his staff in PBIS, MTSS, UbD, Data Collection, CRA Math Intervention Strategies, and many other programs. In 2016, Mr. Newell was selected to serve on the MTSS – Math Statewide Cohort. Through his participation, he was able to train and work with many districts in Pennsylvania. He also was on the District Leadership Team, The Data Team and served on Superintendent Advisory Committees for multiple Superintendents.

Prior to entering education, Mr. Newell worked for nearly a decade for Mellon and Citizens Bank. His career started in Oakmont. During that time, he held many different titles including Branch Manager, Business Banking Specialist, and Branch Compliance Officer. Much of his training in leadership began during this phase of his career.

Mr. Newell earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He then earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and his Professional Certificate in Administration from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

When not in school, Mr. Newell enjoys spending time with his family. He and his wife, Angel, have 4 children, Sadie, Ethan, Landon, and Jackson. He also enjoys sports – Mr. Newell has coached football and track for three districts, Valley, Kiski Area, and Highlands over the past 20 years.

Mr. Newell is extremely excited to start his new role at Riverview and cannot wait to meet the students, staff, and community. He has always admired the success that the Riverview staff has achieved and is anxious to help build our future!
