Riverview SADD Club, Allegheny County Alcohol Highway Safety Program Team Up for DUI Dedication Tree

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) recently teamed up with representatives from Allegheny County’s Alcohol Highway Safety Program to install a DUI Dedication Tree together in the high school. The tree is set up to remind students to make smart choices when it comes to the holiday season and beyond, and to encourage their loved ones to be safe.

Each item on the unique holiday tree represents a different event that occurred during 2020 – 971 lights representing the impaired driving crashes throughout the year, 101 red bows for the impaired driving crashes during the 2020 holiday season, and 13 ornaments to represent the total number of impaired driving fatalities during 2020. Missing this year were the red ornaments, meaning that the 2020 holiday season was free from impaired driving fatalities, a hopeful sign that people are calling for rides and using ride-sharing services more often during the holidays.

SADD President Callie Harden and Treasurer Lola Abraham contributed to the project.

Thanks to all who helped bring this thoughtful tree to student-body awareness!
