Riverview Students Place High at National History Day State Finals

May 20, 2020 -- This past weekend, 19 Riverview students participated in the annual National History Day in Pennsylvania state finals, with multiple groups of students bringing home awards!

The competition was held using a virtual format, similar to the regional finals. Our students did a wonderful job of working to improve their projects between the regional and state finals. The students participating in the state competition were sophomores Hann Morrissey, Jocelyn Schaaf, Samantha Cooper, Orion Shields, Ty Laughlin, Jaiden Heffley, and Lucas Wilton. Also competing were freshmen Ziad Jaafar, Mathew Rossi, Olivia Wilton, Naomi Girson, Taylor Billet, Kathleen Carlino, Aidan Draxinger, Joey Inzinga, Patrick Harvey, Ben Hower, Jack Betler, and Amberson Bauer.  A special thank you to teacher Mr. Ken Kubistek as well.

Riverview students performed well, finishing with three projects (a total of six students) placing at the competition. The award-winners were:

  • Taylor Billet and Katie Carlino won 5th Place in the Senior Group Exhibit category for their exhibit entitled: "Breaking the Sound Barrier: Helping Profoundly Deaf Individuals Listen and Speak."
  • Ziad Jaafar and Matthew Rossi won 5th Place in the Senior Group Documentary category for their project entitled: "Sputnik: The Invention that Incentivised Innovation."
