Over the weekend of February 6-9, 2020, a group of eight members of the Riverview Model United Nations Team attended the 23rd annual Johns Hopkins Model United Nations Conference.  This conference, the largest that the team attends each year, was host to approximately 1500 students from 82 schools and three countries (Israel, Kuwait, and the United States).   The conference had students debating current issues such as the Catalonian independence movement, how to care for people facing the threat of arboviral diseases, and rights for women on the African continent as well as historical issues such as the 1967 Middle East conflict and Japanese governmental policies of 2018.   We are pleased to announce that the Riverview team consisting of seniors Marina Pietz, Emily Pietragallo, and Jake Shoop, juniors Lauren Hornsby, Jakob Killmeyer, Sydney Wilson, and Katie Zatawski, and sophomore Dom Geahry was recognized as the Best Small School Delegation for the entire conference.  This is the second time that the team has won this award at the Johns Hopkins conference (2015).  In addition to being recognized as one of the the two top schools at the conference, the team won seven individual awards:

Marina Pietz was recognized as First Place Best Delegate for her role as Muhammadu Buhari in the Cabinet of Nigeria

Lauren Hornsby was recognized as First Place Best Delegate for her role as Juan Ignacio Zoido Alverez in the Government of Spain

Congratulations to the entire team for this accomplishment.  These eight awards bring the team total to a new team record of 32 awards for the school year.  The team will next be in action at the Rome International Model United Nations Conference in March.
